. juan: giving abandoned pets a second chance with loving families. that's the mission of paw works, they partner with city and county shelters. more than 1800 animals have been saved.


chad atkins is the founder of paw works. we want to welcome him, and obviously, the need is very great out there. how did paw works come about? 2 1/2 years ago we started with ventura county and believe we can make the county no-kill.


the second in california to be no-kill and the largest. there is no other county in california to be no-kill. juan: not only about getting pets into loving homes, it's also about education, spay, neutering, a lot of programs, even going into communities


that are underserved to get the services that they may think they may not afford. we started being no-kill and realized pet overpopulation and the true way to stop that is through spay and neuter programs and educational awareness.


juan: we're taking a look at tape of some of the dogs you offer for adoption. how do these come into your care? about 95% come from the shelter. we don't take many owner surrenders, we try to help the


owners when they need it. it's from the shelter because of the overcrowding as sad as the situation is here over at the shelter. southern california seems to be an adopt type of place. people love adopting pets, love seeing the rescues and you pull


a pet out of a shelter, you save a dog from being euthanized. it's trend eeshg the thing to do. people realize there are so many shelters that need help and not second class citizens. juan: you have two store

sticking out. he's about ten years old and he was surrendered because he had a deformity on his face and they wanted to euthanize him. we saved him. got the surgery, didn't cost us very much. we raised the money.

animals? there are. people believe they're damage or something wrong, i think it's society that's a little damaged. we need to teach ourselves how to be more responsible. juan: and don julio with the
