dog breeds by weight

speaker 1: we all know that labs love thewater, and in fact, that's how they originally came to this country. they didn't swim across, but they did come on boats. so here's what happens with labradors. labradors are thisdog that we think of and we know. we've seen them as service dogs; as assistance dogs;as guide dogs. and labradors are doing these most amazing things. and then we have a nine-month-oldlab. they can be crazy! and you wonder how does these dogs ever get to be guide dogsor assistance dogs and come into a nursing home without wreaking havoc? well, be patient.hang in there and be consistent. they do settle down. that's the good news. but the bad newsis that they need training. they do need to be worked with.speaker 2: labrador retrievers are a really

popular pet and part of the reason for thatis because we've bred them to have what we call a "soft mouth". so a soft mouth was bredinto them so when they went to go retrieve the fowl with their hunters that they didn'tdamage the bird and how that translates really nicely in the home environment is that whenthey grab toys and treats, they very gingerly use their teeth. so great dog for kids andfor elderly people. that's why they're really one of the most popular breeds: because theyare just that friendly and were bred to be that brilliant with their mouth.speaker 3: i love labs because they always want to have a good time. they're really energetic.they love playing. just get ready for a ball of energy. no matter how long you've beengone, she'll just jump all over you and she's

so excited. they just are always so happyand friendly with anyone that they meet. speaker 4: labrador retrievers are meant tobe fun dogs. they're energetic and they seem to never grow up. they're always puppies.and that's certainly in their favor because they're also prone to arthritis. we all hearabout hip dysplasia in large breed dogs and, unfortunately, as they age, that turns intodegenerative joint disease. so if you're going to have a labrador retriever, i would recommendthat you think about getting them exercise in their entire life; allowing them to swim- that's excellent for all their joints. and think about a joint supplement - the glucosaminetype of products - that's perfect for preventing the development of arthritis in labrador retrievers.
